Meet The Heart of Blue Ribbon Residential Construction

John R. Sperath | Owner, Design & Sales

I’m John Sperath President and Founder of Blue Ribbon Residential Construction, Inc. I was raised in Bucks County in south eastern Pennsylvania and moved to Apex, North Carolina in 1992 with my family. Prior to coming I owned a remodeling company in Baldwin, New York on Long Island for nine years. In 1996 Blue Ribbon was formed.

Apex has been very good to my family and me personally. Shortly after arriving I joined the Apex Volunteer Fire Department and participated in all positions within the department from firefighting to President of the department over 15 years. As I got older I didn’t trust myself with firefighting or as a driver / engineer and left the department. For the past six years I have been a member of the Apex Sunrise Rotary Club and have been active as President, Foundation Treasurer, Chairperson of the Music and Memory Committee helping people with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. On a Rotary District level I have served as the Assistant District Governor coordinating activities with five local clubs. I am passionate about giving back to the community. Blue Ribbon follows that passion with fund raising and community service with the Home Builders Association, the Remodelers Council, the Council for Ageless Residential Environments and many other activities.

Personal activities include traveling with my wife to visit children and grand children in Chicago and San Diego. I am also an avid photographer shooting architecture, landscapes, wildlife, flowers, grand children, and antique trains.

John J. Devlin | Design & Sales

I’m John Devlin the company’s sales manager and project designer and I have been with Blue Ribbon since 2012. I’m responsible for meeting with potential clients and helping them turn their projects into reality. I handle sales, estimating, CAD drawing, project design and I’m our resident cabinet expert. I have over 25 years of construction experience. Remodeling is in my DNA; I grew up around the construction industry starting as a teenager helping my mother who was a builder in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Since joining Blue Ribbon I have won several remodeling Star Awards and added CAPS certification.

While growing up in Louisville Kentucky I spent every summer vacation as a youth at Wrightsville Beach. After spending some time in the Midwest I seized an opportunity to get closer to my beloved beach and moved to Raleigh in 2003. I have been married for 27 years and have been blessed with five wonderful children through birth and adoption.

I love the creative process that stems from helping customers design their dream projects. It gives me great pride to work with our excellent team at Blue Ribbon to turn the ideas into reality. When I am not working I enjoy fishing, basketball and playing with the kids.

I’m Chevy Beale and I work with our customers as Site Superintendent making sure that all of the pieces fit together like a puzzle on our projects. A North Carolina native, I now live in Cary. My Business Management degree from the Pirates of ECU and my 15 years of extensive construction experience in all its aspects are essential in helping customers realize their dreams. I also value personal life education and pursue various types of enrichment. In my off time I enjoy competitive bowling, basketball, snow skiing, and travel throughout the United States. Recently married, my wife Kate and I enjoy (in most cases) our dog Gia and cat Isabelle. My life goal is to pursue success on a personal and business level.

Rusty Spencer | Project Foreman

Hi I’m Rusty Spencer I am unusual in that I am a native North Carolinian from Raleigh and moved back to Raleigh after 8 years in Wilmington pursuing an education, getting married and having children. I have been involved in some type of construction since the age of 16 with custom residential building starting with toting materials and advancing into more advanced phases of construction. Other than construction there was a period of time when I was in the dry cleaning business as a manager and successful business owner. I have been with the production department of Blue Ribbon over four years. I am an avid music aficionado and have an extensive collection of vinyl 50’s rhythm and blues and jazz records. Both of my kids were involved in competitive Shag dancing and sports which consumed many hours going to events. Hunting and salt water off shore fishing are activities that I have enjoyed with my son now that he has taken an interest in those things. I enjoy the construction industry because it allows me to create something out of nothing.

Blue Ribbon shares my desire to exceed customer expectations and provide the highest level of customer service possible. The last 5 years I have worked in residential construction, working my way from administrative duties, through installation coordination in to management. I enjoy following all of the moving parts from start to finish and I strive to be a helping hand to sales, project managers and trade crews as well as our customers.
