Part 2: Expanding Possibilities: A Thoughtful Addition to an Existing Home

This is Part 2 of our Expanding Possibilities series. In Part 1, we walked through the design, planning, and documentation phase of this custom master suite addition. You can revisit Part 1 to see how the vision was developed before construction began.

After months of planning, collaboration, and refinement, this project has officially moved out of the design phase and into construction. With the floor plans finalized, structural decisions confirmed, and selections carefully considered, the focus now shifts from ideas on paper to building them in real life. This transition marks an exciting milestone, as the vision developed during design begins to take physical shape on site.

This stage reflects the seamless transition outlined in Part 1 of this master suite addition series, where thoughtful planning set the foundation for successful construction.

This phase includes:

• Framing and Structural Work
• Rough-Ins
• Insulation and Drywall
• Interior Finishes
• Final Install and Punch List

Each of these phases plays a critical role in our broader home additions and whole-home remodeling services, ensuring new spaces integrate structurally and aesthetically with the existing home.

During this stage, the project begins to take shape as walls, floors, and roof structures are built according to the approved plans. This phase is a major milestone, as the layout becomes visible and the scale of the space can truly be experienced for the first time. Shown below are photos of the framing phase.

Structural precision during framing ensures that the addition aligns with both the approved plans and the original structure of the home — a key focus in every custom home addition we build.

The next phase moves into rough-ins and behind-the-scenes work. During this stage, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems are installed within the framed structure. While much of this work will eventually be concealed behind walls and ceilings, it is critical to the functionality and comfort of the home. Below are examples of the rough-ins for this job.

This step transforms the space by enclosing walls and ceilings, making the home feel more complete and giving a true sense of room proportions. From here, the project begins its transition from structure to finishes. Below are photos of the installation and drywall phase.

This stage includes installing flooring, cabinetry, trim, doors, tile, and built-ins, along with painting and other detailed work. With each finish installed, the space becomes more refined and reflective of the original design vision, marking a major step toward completion. From these pictures, you can visualize these aspects coming to life.

The final phase focuses on completing remaining installations and fine-tuning every detail. Light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, hardware, and appliances are installed, and the space is carefully reviewed through a punch list to address any final adjustments. Below are photos of the lighting and plumbing fixtures being installed.

This final review process is part of our home remodeling process, ensuring every detail meets Blue Ribbon standards before the space is delivered to the homeowner.

With all construction phases complete, the project reaches its final milestone. What began as a concept has been carefully executed through each stage of construction, resulting in a fully realized space that reflects both thoughtful design and skilled craftsmanship. From the initial groundwork to the final details, every phase plays a role in bringing the vision to life, and the finished project is now ready to be enjoyed!
