Last year the National Electric Code added ArcFault breakers to all sleeping areas as additional protection similar to the GFCI outlets that are in wet areas i.e. baths, kitchens, and outdoors. The ArcFault breakers sense fluctuations in the neutral side wire as well as the positive side and will trip if there is a malfunction in the circuit anywhere. While we often grumble about new code requirements the attached photos tell the story of a loose neutral wire in an outlet on the circuit not even in proximity to the space heater that was plugged in in another room. The outlet in the photo got so hot it melted the plastic box in the wall and could have easily started a house fire. It’s not good when you overhear your electrician say Oh Crap!!!
